BULGARI (AP) Bulgaria has signed a deal with an online magazine to produce its first female models in a bid to attract more foreign investment in its struggling economy.
Bulgaria’s Ministry of Economy and Trade said the Bulgarian-owned magazine will publish two of its first models, a model of the presidential guard from the conservative Varna party and a model from the liberal party of the same name.
Bulgarian President Gennady Zyuganov has called the plans “a big step forward.”
Bulgary has struggled to compete with the European Union in the race to attract new foreign investment.
It has been one of the poorest countries in the bloc and relies heavily on foreign investment to grow its economy.
Zyuganova said the deal is a welcome boost for Bulgaria, which has a relatively low birthrate and low literacy rate.
The two models, however, are not officially part of the magazine.
