Posted January 26, 2018 17:02:24Bulgarian authorities say a five-year-old girl has been killed by her boyfriend as he sat in the back of the car on a road in southern Bulgaria.
The death has sparked a massive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing of the girl’s mother, who is said to have moved to the UK in 2016 to pursue a career in the media.
Police are looking into whether the child had been placed in the wrong car.
They say the boy had been drinking and driving on the roads in the village of Krasnopan, a town in the region of Budva, when the accident happened on Friday afternoon.
The girl was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for the regional police said: “At around 11.40am, a child was involved in a collision with a vehicle.
The accident caused the death of the child, the driver of the vehicle and the driver’s friend.”
He added: “The police are investigating the circumstances of the accident and have requested the information of witnesses.”
The investigation is ongoing and we are trying to establish the facts behind this tragedy.
“The police have not released the names of the boy and girl involved.
Bulgians often drink and drive.
The local media have described the deaths of two girls last month in which their mother, identified as Maria, was killed and their father, identified only as Yevgeny, was wounded.
Bulgaria has been rocked by a series of deadly alcohol-related accidents.
