The first thing you need to do is to make a yogurt starter.
In this tutorial, I will show you how to make the basic ingredients in your favourite yogurt starter from scratch.
You will need:1.
5 litre (2.6 gallon) or 1 litre container of yogurt1.
2.5 oz (89g) water3.
1 tablespoon (30ml) oil (optional)4.
1.5 tablespoons (25ml) butter (optional – see step 4)5.
1 tbsp (18g) cream (optional).
Make the yogurt starterIngredients:1 cup (170ml) or 2.7oz (8.6oz) sour cream2 cups (1.3 liters) (or 2.3 quarts) sour milk (or other dairy-based milk)3 tablespoons (15g) butter1/2 cup (150ml) water2 tablespoons (18ml) olive oil (or vegetable oil)3 teaspoons salt3 cloves garlic (optional), crushed1/4 cup (75ml) heavy cream3/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional1/3 cup (50ml) fresh lemon juice (optional, but highly recommended)2 cups or 3 liters (1/8 or 2/3 gallon) yogurt1/5 cup (60ml) freshly squeezed lemon juice2 tablespoons freshly ground black pepper3 cups (4.5 liters or 1.4 or 1 1/2 gallons) frozen yogurt (or 1/4 to 1/3 of a gallon)1.
Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C)2.
Combine the sour cream, sour milk, and butter in a large bowl.3.
Add the oil, lemon juice, salt, and garlic to the bowl.4.
Add water, butter, lemon juices, salt and garlic and stir to combine.5.
Pour in the remaining ingredients and stir until combined.6.
Place the bowl in the oven for about 15 minutes or until the mixture is bubbling.7.
Remove from the oven and let it sit in the fridge for 30 minutes.8.
To serve, top each piece with a slice of yogurt and serve.
